Driver Training

Triple Diamond 4WD Club holds regular Driver Training courses throughout the year.

As a standard calendar item we have four scheduled Training Weekends per year with additional Training Weekends added when the need arises. Our pre-determined training days are run on the weekend of the fourth Saturday in the months of February, May, August and November.

Why we do Driver Training

It is a condition of the club that all members, regardless of experience attend a training weekend with Triple Diamond before the new member can attend all levels of trips. Some exceptions may apply.

One of the most important aspects of four-wheel driving is the difference between driving on bitumen and the skills required to effectively use your vehicle in true off road conditions.

New Triple Diamond members will be educated in 4WD theory and get to apply this in a practical setting to increase driver awareness in all aspects of four-wheel driving.  This ranges from care of the environment, vehicle knowledge, four-wheel driving techniques, basic recovery techniques and safety in the bush. Additionally it provides a great atmosphere to meet many members of the club and hopefully by the end of the weekend new members will feel like they are really a part of the Triple Diamond family.

We conduct our theory sessions either on the Saturday morning of a training weekend, or on an evening prior to the Training Weekend at Rosehill Bowling Club and our practical sessions are conducted around the Rydal / Lake Lyell Area not far from Lithgow.

Our Credentials

Triple Diamond has a very high level of training and we are well respected for the level of competency within the 4WDing community. All our driver trainers have at least a Statement of Attainment of "Drive & Recover a 4WD Vehicle - SRODRV001B" which is a Four Wheel Drive NSW & ACT Association recognised competency.

Other Training Events

Our Driver Training Team also runs other Training events throughout the year, such as:

  • Advanced Driver Training including more advanced recovery techniques.
  • Ladies Training Days for those partners who don't want to be part of the everyday driving but have a competency level should the main driver become injured and unable to continue

New and upcoming Training events will be:

  • GPS and Navigation Weekends
  • Travelling with Camper Trailers
  • Triple Diamond Clubkhana where driving skills are put to the test in a fun and relaxed environment
